My feeling is that since it's only what's within 200' of the house that matters, and most people who live in the woods own the woods within 200' of their houses, it's really not the government's responsibility to fireproof the entire national forest around their place, nor to rescue their house if they didn't bother to create a defensible perimeter to begin with. Around here, for those who want it done but don't want to do it themselves, there's a federally-financed fire mitigation crew that will clear out the brush and small trees around people's houses. For those who don't want it done, I guess they can pray for rain.
