I've lived in a town with Casino's for over 5 years. I haven't gambled my first dime in one. Of course I’ve lived in several states with Lottery’s and I’ve never purchased a lottery ticket either. They say they’re supposed to bring money in for the schools. I’m still waiting to see that. We still have some of the lowest paid teachers and poorest academic scores in the country. They do bring some money and jobs into the community, but I believe they destroy more lives than they help. It’s not uncommon to hear of someone killing themselves after they’ve gambled their last dime. I work with guys that repair the ATMs and people will stand in line for an hour, waiting for the closest ATM to be fixed so they don’t get to far from their favorite slot machine. Then they go through credit card after credit card trying to find one that’s not maxed out so they can get some cash off of it.
That said these are consenting adults and I believe they should have the right to throw their money away if they choose to. But as for me I don’t care for Casino’s.
