I've been using my Bosch oscillating jig saw, with a bimetal blade. Wonderful! The blade is not as long as a sawzall, but it cuts fast, clean, and controllable. The oscillation prevents back dragging, allowing the blade to have a cooling pause, rather than the extreme heating of the back drag.
Then change the blade to the coarsest one, and it will cut 2x4's almost as fast as a skilsaw would.
