Dave,
Take a look at my reply to Tim for a description of services.
In the startup and short-term periods of my business plan, I intend to subcontract work primarily from mapping and engineering companies of various sizes.
A long-term goal is to be able to respond to RFP's providing end-to-end consulting/management for mapping projects from end-user clients. This would involve managing subcontractors for ground survey, aerial data acquistion, and other services not internal to my own operations.
On my own, I will always be limited to smaller scope-of-work projects. However, this industry is dependent upon networked teams coordinating specialty areas to approach larger projects. There are irons in the fire and excellent potential for me to join in such efforts.
My work as a subcontractor or as part of any team effort is not restricted to any region. However, as a single-person contractor in a detailed marketing study, I have defined a region of approximatly a one-day's drive radius from Colorado Springs (and NOT in a Power Wagon ... "Dodge Content"). That's like from Albuquerque (Hi Tim Way) to Cheyenne (Hi Dave Brownlow) including all of CO and parts of KS, & UT
Clients would include sectors of engineering/contruction/surveying firms, municipal/county/state gov's including departments of transportation, utilites and other corridor transport users, and mining/gas/oil.
I am hesitant now to consider Federal contracting, but would not rule it out in the future. There are still a lot of Homeland Security dollars at work. I certainly would have many hoops to jump through before even hoping to qualify to bid on any classified work. I've had a taste of this with my previous employer and its a bit out of my zone.

WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION!
