Mike I was a fuel and elect. repairman in army 40 yrs ago and worked on the generator systems. If a gen. will motorize it will charge. Here is how you can do it,remove the drive belt to the gen.so it will turn freely then close the r.c.c.r ( reverse current cutout relay) by pressing with your finger. That's the coil that should be open with what looks like two different sise wire coils and should have the bat. wire hooked to. If the gen does'n motorize give it a little help, if it turns it won't turn with much force. and if it does turn the problem lurkes elsewhere. Let me kmow if that helps.
