WAS A DISASTER!
I knew I had a charging issue to deal with. I got the battery all charged up, checked all the fluids, checked to make sure nothing was just layin around on it or near it, and cranked it up. WHAM, it fired right up. The pedal was sticking a bit, but no big deal.
Being that it was 85 out, I only let it warm up for 5-10 minutes. Quick cruise to my buddy's shop to check the alt out. That's when I heard it. A chugging sound, kinda like a choo choo train.
Then it seemed to lose power for a bit. Maybe the carb was loading up, but it soon smoothed out. Got to my buddy's shop only to remember he was on vaction, but his guy was there. Whew.
The alt is putting out to much juice, 16 volts. There was this whinnung sound. Power steering pump. Located the it's fill tank (don't ask, it's an abortion). Whinning went away.
This was to be a quick cruise and besides, I had to get home for when my 7 year old daughter got home from school. Oh, Maynard was with me.
We're on our way home and it starts the chugging & shaking again. Now it's bad. Oh, we noticed what was probably an exhaust manifold leak (where the chugging was coming from). It got worse. Then there was this pop, kinda like a backfire, then about 2 minutes later, it dies.
I was doin about 35 so I popped the clutch a couple of times thinkin it would fire up again. NOPE! It's dead! Nuthin! I rolled it to a turn lane so I was outa the main traffic (whew).
I sent Maynard back to the shop (about a mile away), and of course he screwed up. I told him to have the guy send a tow truck. They pull up in a itty bitty car with jumper cables. Maynard NEVER mentioned tow truck to the guy.
He was also supposed to call my wife at work, to call the school to keep her there until someone could pick her up. He kinda did that okay, but not really. He left a message instead. My wife didn't get it. Good thing I called her too, but by then, it was to late.
I won't go into what happened with her, but fortunately, all is okay, except I'm hiding as I don't want to die just yet. My buddy won't be back for over a week, so I won't know what's up til then at the earliest.
