I have started painting the third members in anticipation of installing them back on the already painted axle housings. As i painted them, i removed the plugs to paint them silver. As i removed the plug with the slot in the bolt head and the set nut, there was a brake shoe type looking piece of metal that had a recessed hole for the bolt plug to set in. THis piece was sitting on the outside of the ring gear. My question is what does this do? and more of the question, how important is it? I ask because only one third member has this piece. Do I need to get another one for the other third member?
