Hi-Lift jacks seem to be very sensitive to the pins getting dirty or rusty. It doesn't take much crud for them to hang up, and if both pins are out of the column at the same time, down she goes. Oil doesn't help because it just collects more dirt. I learned this the hard way when I used to let my jack ride around in the open back of the truck all the time. A hi-lift jack has to be stored in a dry place and kept clean.
