You've got a lot more lawyers in New Jersey. No insurance I've ever had has ever even asked about it. Maybe they put something in the fine print that says they don't cover environmental cleanup from leaky tanks or something. I guess the fact that this tank still has some oil in it means that it's not leaking yet. I tried to pump out the oil so I could use it, but it was way too dirty.

I thought I was going to have a hassle with the old oil tank when I sold my house in Everett last year, but after checking with the lawyer, the state, and the title company, so long as I disclosed it to the buyer (who didn't care about it at all), I'm off the hook. But you're right that the laws are only going to get tougher as time goes by, so if I ever get my backhoe running and can drive it over to this side of the hill, I think I ought to get rid of that tank while the getting rid of it is still easy. I'll still have to cut it up, because the scrappers won't take them unless they're cut up, but I can do that out in the boonies rather than in the middle of town. I'm thinking one cut with a sawzall to open it up so it can't go boom, and then torch the rest of it.
