This is a repost from the m37 site.
A couple of points as I have resolved my distributor problem.
A previous post stated he had a civvy distributor with an offset
tang, it must be a morphed dist as the civvy's are usually
centered tang.
(1) I had to move the electronic pickup unit 30 deg. to get it to work. I drilled a hole beside the # 1 cyl post on the dist, painted the end of the rotor white, and shot it with a timing light to find it was wayyyyy off. I could have retimed the oil pump but I wanted to keep it so I could switch back to points in a heartbeat. I have lost electronic pickups before to near lightning strikes. Three so far on different vehicles (very high Sierra trekking and my house is at the location of an old fire lookout).
(2) I have found that different distributors that will fit into a 230
need to be TDC # 1 timed differently via the oil pump.
(3) Don't rely on the manufacturers techs info as gospel. I was told that what I ended up doing to get the truck running correctly
WOULDN'T WORK.
FYI
# 1 dist. IGC-4707-1 with a Pertronix 1567 electronic unit
# 2 dist is a IBR
both are 12V.
