...words in my mouth that weren't on paper.
Never said that was a hardcore trail, it's a dirt road. The Liberty in the photo is my wife's, there is a reason it was leading, it's virtually stock and anything she can get through, the Chevy should be able to get through. Although the Liberty has successfully tackled several rated trails in Moab, it's not a true off-roader, never said that, but that is what made the story so funny.
As stated in another post, the GM engineers know how to build a capable truck, the bean counters however figure that with 12% of their owners actually using their trucks off-road or on construction sites they gamble on using a cheaper part. Those trophy trucks are 2WD race cars, not serious 4 Wheelers, so your comparison about IFS is flawed. IFS is for Buick's.
The entire point of sharing the story is to point out that drivers of posers should be careful with their toys...and check the capability of a vehicle before using it or buying it.
That Chevy is not an isolated case, GM has a problem with the design of the 1500, 2500 Tahoe and H2 front end. If you have one, replace those arms. The replacement part is a 1" diameter Fabtech part # FTS71002 $250 plus tax.
