I ain't all that off base when I say that Daimler is jest gettin revenge for WW II? I'll openly admit that I'm not a long time Dodge guy. Most of my vehicles have been GM, but even way back, Dodge was always know for good strong work trucks. The hemi (original) was legendary as was the Torque Flight Trans.

I've mainly been a truck guy for most of my driving life. My Suburban had OVER 500K when I finally got rid of it (still had original, unrebuilt engine & tranny too). Our 1st D was built in Oct of 98, when Chrysler still controled production.

It was a well built, strudy truck, and I still miss it. Our 01 D was built after Daimler took control. It's a piece of crap. Everywhere ya look, you can see the signs of COST CUTTING.

Like many, I used to think that Consumer Reports was like a God send until I discovered that they didn't have a clue. They had done a report on garden tractors, and 13 of the 25 or so rated tractors were all built by MTD at the very same plant (only the markings and some LOOKS/STYLE were different), and ALL had a different rating.

We have gotten very gullible. We believe almost everything we read without question. WRONG! Jap crap is still Jap crap. All advertising in the US is done by American advertising companys.

We've all heard the sayin "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Same works in advertising. This is what they've been doin for decades and it's been workin okay for em.

Let's face it, we've become a VERY shallow society, more concerned about appearances than substance. Back in the mid or late 70's, GM did a survey of new car buyers. I can't remember all the questions/choices asked, but the outcome was that the buyers were more concerned with the apprearance of quailty then actually quality.

We were very surprised at the shop I was working for at the time. Instead of making vehicles that fit better, they added sound deadeners (clay). Most here seem to be of the other persuasion (thankfully) where actual quality is better.

Still, to me, it's seems that Daimler has been committing wholesale slaughter of Dodge/Chrysler. They're NOT stupid people there in Stuttgart. So it must be an intenional act on their part. Hopefully the new owners will bring back the quality, and ALSO tout it too.

Later
Ugg
