I've called a couple of the custom axle places. One issue that their "blanks" are usually 40" long. the long side rear is 40-1/2". Not a big difference, but enough to require a two piece axle i.e. splines on the outside with removable flange. I do think that with my ideas of fine splines (with a Detroit Locker, hopefully a "Soflocker") set up for coarse or fine), full 1-3/8" shaft and super strong alloy/deeper heat treating, one could possibly find breaking strengths 50-100% higher.
