He does have a point, the shafts tend to break. The problem is at least partially the 1.375" coarse splines and the fact that the unsplined part of the axle is necked down to 1.3125" (1-5/16"). If someone would please develop a Detroit Locker (which would replace that hard to work on carrier) and develop some shafts that are perhaps 1.375" fine spline (the locker would come with coarse and fine spline "drivens") and not necked down at all except maybe a tiny bit just before the flange so if it breaks it breaks there making it simple to remove and far away from the diff to keep debris away from the diff. And built out of a high tensile alloy, heat treated deeply please.
