"Gushes gas into the manifold" is typically a fuel pressure problem - like too much fuel pressure that overpowers the inlet needle and forces fuel into the bowl under pressure. You might check the needle valve setup just to be sure it's assembled correctly, if the clip is on the wrong side of the float, it will flood big time (I did it and it flooded). What kind of fuel pump are you running? Original mechanical or electric?
