Before you paint your truck "for keeps" practice on an old beater or friends vehicle that doesn't need such a fancy finish. Use the same type of primer and paint that you will use on your project truck. Sounds pricey but saves a lot of redo time. Of course, you could keep slathering the paint on but if you took a bit of care into the underlying bodywork and prep it would be a shame to keep "wiping off" a practice run.
