For a winch, You get diffent speeds depending on the transmission gear you are in, not sure, but I dont think you get that feature if pto is mounted on transmission? Someone else will hopefully verify, I don't have experience with Transmission mounted PTO May be less likely to be in way of exhaust pipe etc?
