I have dismounted several combats by doing as Marty suggested.

Back off the nuts a few turns, put a couple chains around the ring and then air up the tire. Once the ring pops free and onto the bolts, then let the air out, back the nuts off and remove. Even the really rusty ones come apart like this.

With the bolts and the chains you have a double safety which is a whole lot better than the split rings!
