An electric fuel pump mounted in the engine compartment will cause this too.
If you have a mechanical pump, when it stops running, I would immediately disconnect the fuel line at the carb, direct the line into a container or pipe it out of the engine compartment, and crank it to see if it is still pumping fuel.
