My M37 got vapor locked once going up a long steep hill on a hot day. The carb and fuel system aren't stock, so I don't know if that made any difference, but it shows that it can happen. The usual cures are to keep fuel lines away from hot things, install a heat shield if necessary, and make sure the heat riser isn't set to or stuck in its "winter" position. Heat riser flappers can break loose from the shaft inside the manifold, so even if the shaft turns, it doesn't mean the heat riser is working.
