Ugg,

One of the greatest rights that this country provides you and me is the right to speak and share our opinions. Of course that doesn’t mean we can force anyone to listen or that Joe has to allow it.

Whether anyone agrees or not with the United States being in Iraq doesn’t matter. The fact is we’re there, so what do we do now? Do we can cut and run and let the Iraqi’s fend for them self’s or do we stay and see it through.

I don’t disagree that many of the citizens of this great country have become fat dumb and lazy and don’t hold their politicians accountable. I also don’t disagree that you can’t trust most of them whether democrats or republicans.

But I stand by my opinion that if we walk way from the war in Iraq the current government will not survive and Iran would soon be in control.

If you do a Google search on oil reserves you will see that the combined countries of Iraq and Iran would have the second highest oil reserves in world. That gives the nut case in Iran tremendous amounts of money and power. Our economy is so dependent on cheap oil that a sudden and dramatic increase in oil prices that lasts more than a few months would devastate our economy. That translates to runaway inflation, lost jobs, and thousands of homeless and hungry people. I don’t think we have any choice but to see this through no matter how long it takes.

As far as your fear of Maynard being drafted. I pray that your son never has to go to war, but my son is in the Army and has already spent one tour in Iraq. He would tell you that he wouldn’t trust anyone to cover his back that didn’t volunteer to be there.

And I understand the fear that a father has. I watched my son go to war. I clearly remember being glued to the news every time something happened, praying that it was not where he was at, living on pins and needles for nearly a year, not knowing if I would ever see my son again. I promise you it is terrifying.

I also know the sick feeling of sitting in a living room of a friend who just got the news that their son had been killed in Iraq. And feeling a twisted quilt because my son made it home and their son didn’t. But freedom is not free my friend and I am DAM proud of my son and all the others that believe that to the point of putting their lives on the line.

Now back to my original point. It’s public knowledge that the republican president that I’m proud I voted for (and would do so again if I could) wants to see this war through to victory. It’s also public knowledge that the democrats are doing everything in their power to end the war as soon as possible no matter what the consequences. It’s black and white, cut and dry, the sides are clear and I’ve chosen my side.
