The late M601 ('70) 251 uses a disposable filter can. It has a base cast on the same side of the block as the "normal" oil filter. This base has 2 mounting screw holes for the adapter and 2 holes for the oil flow. One comes out of the oil gallery where the pipe for the normal filter would go and the other is below that and returns the oil to the crankcase. There appears to be some kind of deflector inside the crankcase to stop oil splash. Even though this is called a full flow system, to me it is still a bypass system as it still does the same as the normal filter system. Only way to get a true full flow system would be to graft in a filter between the pump outlet and the block.
