Oh, Don't get me wrong Norm...I'm not saying I'd tow anything behind the Toyota because until they build a 1Ton Diesel 4x4...I won't be driving one!
That being said, I'm just saying that Toyota has proven to make very, very high quality products...even though they aren't what I buy. I think the legal department at Toyota has had a long look at this before they publish these specs & 10,000lbs doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
Think about it...my father used to drive back & forth to the interior of BC through serious mountains, driving a 90's GMC 1ton with a 454. He was transporting concrete blocks to his retreat on Shuswap Lake & drove every Weekend with 6000lbs of block in the bed of the truck.
No matter how big the tow vehicle...jack knifing is a hazzard of towing but the best piece of equipment we have is the drivers discretion. A safe driver will know what & when to tow. An Idiot....give him the best new Dodge & a new trailer & he'll kill himself with it.
That's my take anyway...I never said anything about flat towing anything with any Toyota!
