the way i see it with a pertronix and their blaster coil you are way better off. its a one wire hookup, you eliminate the trouble prone ballast resistor that you get with the mopar kit and you keep the engine compartment uncluttered. if your dist is bad you can get a rebuilt or nos for about $20.00 for a 318/360. adding something 'factory' to a truck that didn't come from the factory doesn't make it better - it makes it oddball. we've run 100s of pertronix units in our equipment (all kinds) and havent had one go bad yet. in the same way that a delco 1 wire alternator is often the best choice for keeping wiring to a minimum and equipment charging without fail, the pertronix is tops from my perspective. besides, bolting that goofy orange box on the firewall wouldnt look right in my command car or m37. i guess if the performance is the same, its preference from there.
