Sometimes I've found that cash works with those kind of people. If you're serious about buying it, decide how much you're willing to give and show up at the door with cash. The sight of hundred dollar bills goes along way toward convincing ma or pa into cutting loose with the dreams of fixin' it up someday. Doesn't always work but does more often than not.
You: I was just wonderin' if you'd be willing to sell that ole Dodge out there?
Pa: Nah, I'm keepin'her ta fix up someday.
You: Well I was fixin' to offer you $800 for it (pull $800 in twenties out of your pocket and start counting it out)
Pa: Well now, if yer all that serious why don't we go on out there and look it over.
You: Yeah, I got my trailer with me. Shouldn't be to much to jus' winch her up there. I'd give her a good home and let ya ride in it when I git her fixed up.
