There are exceptions to this, but in general:
1940 to 1971 Dodge utline (step side) pickups of all styles built for sale to the public got the Dodge stamped tailgates. Most military specific trucks (WWII military 4wds, M-37s, etc) did not get the Dodge stamp on the tailgate.
Starting in 1971 or 1972 Dodge started using a tailgate without the Dodge stamp on the Utline bed, a sticker was used instead.
