I double checked my 2 trucks that have the Deluxe filter housing like yours and the oil comes from the top fitting in the block then goes to the bottom of the oil filter. The top fitting on the side of the filter is the outlet which then goes to the bottom fitting on the block. One of my trucks is a California build and the other is a Detroit and both have un-altered engines equipped with the Deluxe filter with original steel lines. I've yet to see any factory filters listed in parts lists other than Purolator and Deluxe brands for the first series trucks. The only difference being the Purolators(Motor Improvements)had plumbing running different directions depending on what series Purolator was used....there were 3. The Deluxe was only plumbed one way and is designed to only be plumbed one way because of the relief valve in the stem of the T handle.
