The 1957 Dodge was the first factory installed 4 Wheel Drive system in a Conventional styled civilian cab. Technically the WDX-WM300 is a civilian styled cab (from 1939), but the military fenders and military parts used in the running gear and the limited production numbers make it a footnote.
The ad is correct, 1957 was considered the first year for factory installed 4 Wheel Drive in a standard pickup by the former "Big 3".
WDX Power Wagons and Jeep pick-ups apparently didn't count, they are specialty niche vehicles...= )
