A Detroit or other Positive Locker can never slip or unload. That is why it is called a positive locker. Neither wheel can ever be turning slower than the gear driven case. It sounds like you are confusing the Detroit and other positive lockers with limited slip units. Both rear tires would have to loose traction with the ground for the entire load to transfer to the front axle.
