Dan,
This has nothing to do with the ARB "having negative effects", it has to do with this: in your own words, " But to your point, in a low load situation where the locker allows the outside tire to disengage, you are not transferring all the load (or even any significant load) to the front axle. The only!! thing that can result in a load transfer to the front axle is to loose traction on the back axle."
That's my ENTIRE point, when the Detroit or other type of traction device unloads or slips, the load is transfered by default to the axle with traction. The axle with traction is ALWAYS the ARB equipped axle, an ARB never disengages unless you turn it off or lose your compressor. This is not a negative remark about the ARB, they are great, it's a knock on the Detroit type of traction device, when they are used in conjunction with an ARB, they are the weak link, so it is prudent to know that and drive accordingly. The ARB will continue to work and get you through the situation and my caution was that you do not need additional throttle to achieve that traction. Bottom line, if you feel the Power Lock or Detroit slipping, stay OFF the throttle, the ARB will STILL be pulling and make up the difference.
Again this only happens in certain situations in certain terrain, 95% of the users of dual types of traction devices may never experience this, however now that Tim has an ARB he will be going places that he formerly could not go, it was just a caution, NOT a debate, or an exercise in speculation, it's real, it happens. If it has not been experienced by people running this combo in the past, well, that's fine, it just means they haven't pushed the envelope on their puny Detroit or other inferior, non selectable traction device....= )
