Roger are you sure you need to remove all the old paint? It's a tedious job at best so maybe just feathering the deep scratches back and using a good primer sealer will save a lot of inhaled bad dust. I agree with the 80 grit but if you feather with a 100 grit in a DA sander it will most likely give the same results. Another disc I use is made by 3M called a Bristle Disc. It looks like it's made of plastic bristles but it works very well in a 4 1/2" grinder. The beauty of the disc is that it won't heat the metal it's working on and removes only paint not metal. They run about $15 -18 a piece but as long as you stay away from very rusty metal they have a long life right down the the end.If the link works check out the picture of the disc I used one on Joe's TW a few years back. Prep work is everything and be sure to wear a mask or respirator, that dust is nasty.
