I think the column end would be more trouble. But maybe the tranny pan has to come off to change that lever.
Perhaps the link ends have grooves worn in? Easy to replace that.
Or are there worn plastic snap in bushings?
But there are two sets of detents, one in the tranny, the other in the column. That's why Ford was correct when they said they had no transmission problem when it jumped from park to reverse- it was a column problem.
