In regards to Kevin's post below about the new company producing 2nd and 3rd series tailgates:

Maybe we could persuade this company to reproduce the first series tailgates used on the Power-Wagon from 1946-early 1951. I am not trying to step on any toes or hurt any feelings, and I am not saying they are bad, but there is room for improvement in the reproductions currently available. These have some structural details missing and some dimensions are incorrect. All of these issues could be easily corrected with someone producing new tooling. I would not hesitate to buy one of the currently available tailgates if I did not already have an original on my truck. I am not saying that mine is perfect. In fact, it is beyond restoration. It can never be made to look like it did when new. But it is usable and it is correct. I just can not justify replacing it with one of the ones currently available. But if a reproduction was available that was perfect, I would pay twice the price of what the ones cost now. Competition can be good.
