My pop had spinal stynosis (spelled wrong perhaps)and bad arthritis (he's late 70's) and he finally had an operation (Back Surgery)to see if this would fix anything. His was lower back. After a few years, he's much more mobile but he's almost 80 now so you have much more to gain I would imagine.
On the pain killers, I had a brother in law who became addicted to oxycontin. The nature of this drug is that it does store up in the fat cells and takes more and more over time to remain effective. The resulting double whammy for him was he overdosed and it killed him so just be careful.
Our prayers are with you. Just get good medical counsel. the back is a mighty tricky thing.
