I let my dog (wolfy sled-dog mutt) eat whatever she wants and she's 11 and still going strong. She's not much for fruit or chocolate, but she's definitely had some chocolate cookies with no ill effect. Her previous owners let her eat left-over turkey carcasses, which is also supposed to be bad, but they didn't hurt her. I do think raw bones are better for dogs than cooked ones. She consumed the raw shoulder blade of an elk in one morning. Dogs' stomachs seem to tell their brains, "give me anything that looks remotely eatable and if it's not I'll throw it back." That can be messy, but harmless. The only time my dog had some real digestive problems was when she found a 2-lb jimmy dean sausage roll someplace and ate the whole thing raw. It went through her like the proverbial crap through a goose. I had a beagle pup once that loved salal berries right off the bush. She'd fill herself up with them, throw them up, and go back for more. But beagles are hounds and hounds will eat anything.
