Shimming the engine mounts can definetely cause problems. On my 230, the front pulley would rub on the front engine mount at times. I think was from improper or worn out rear mounts. When I installed new mounts, it no longer rubs. Now I have to make sure every thing else is parallel with the tranney yoke.
