Was over at a buddy's house this evening, and he had an idea. Why not have an axle made for the short side since it's the one that usually breaks and when it's manufactured have the non-splined part be the same as the max dia. of the splined part. i;e 1.375" (stock is 1.250" next to the flange) And since that side is shorter it may be possible to use one of the stock billets which would keep the cost down. Since the long side rarely breaks. I'll be packing a spare of each anyway.

he had lots of other ideas including welding my spindles onto a Dana60 that he had laying around and then moving the driveshaft output to the emergency brake drum location on the T-case. But the short shaft idea sounded the best to me.
