i thought it was possible to get a blank long enough to spline on the diff side and spline on the hub side. that way you could use front axle caps to assemble the thing and have enough length to get it done. one thing we do with the big trucks is to have torque fuses installed on the driveshafts. these engineered fuse and couplers blow before you shred an axle or diff. they work in a fashion that when they go the driveshaft stays in place and one tube spins inside another. this way, you can drive out of the woods in front or rear wheel drive. might be an easier solution than trying to make new axles. stronger axles will cause the next weak link up the line to go.
