There is some wood content in them. The early composites, like Trex, were made from ground up shipping pallets and melted down milk jugs. I am sure they have evolved since then. The only drawback that I can see to using it in a PW bed is that it is fairly springy. It is recomended you not exceed 16" centers on the framing and they aint kidding! I decked a section that was framed on 16" centers but ran the decking on the diagonal. You can feel the difference in springiness quite noticeably. Fortunately, it was on my own house so I just kept my mouth shut and nobody else noticed it!
