Just a few years ago, Belton Y. Cooper published his tale of duty with the spearhead armor division when they punched through the Siegfried Line. As an ordnance officer responsible for repair and replacement before the smoke had cleared in each engagement, he said that the radial aircraft engine was totally unsuited for the high idle time and slow speed slogging of a tank. Fouled plugs were sometimes changed daily! Anyway, it's a great read: "Death Traps" a paperback Ballantine Books.
