As Pieter said camping at the fairgrounds is allowed and several people do, I did at my first rally in 2000. The hotels i Fairfield are most likely booked by now so this my be your only chioce to stay close to the rally. Mt Pleasant and Ottumwa are each 20-25 miles in either direction which I found out at a later rally by not getting reservations in early. As for your truck I've seen an A100, a 47 2 ton farm truck and a few cars show up so no problem. I'm sure your Dad will enjoy the numerous trucks to found at the rally and everyone has a story behind their truck. All you have to do is ask and you'll be in the mix of things before you know it. You and your Dad can even get a ride in a truck by asking. If you do bring your truck be sure to try the teeter board on Thursday night, it's a lot of fun to try to balance a truck. Been there, done that. See you in Iowa, just look for a red 59 W200 with a Sand Dune white Townwagon next to it. My first truck was 78 ClubCab Powerwagon,I really loved that truck.
