It depends on where you live. Many places require a visiaul inspection on emissions. In addition, it is a Federal Offense to tamper with emissions related equipment.
That said, a lot of people do it on cars. However, unless your truck has a catalytic converter, you don't have much in the way of smop stuff. The vacuum hoses usually have a purpose and just need to be in good shape. A leak in one can cause problems.
