I am currently getting a machine shop estimate to overhaul a 230 for a 1941 WC-12. They tell me it is a pre 1951 motor by the lack of a little bump located at the front of the head. The overhaul is going to require sleeving, pistons, valves, seats and guides for the tune of +/- $2000. That's with me reassebling it. Does this sound reasonable?

Funny how things happen, but another customer in the machine shop over heard that I was was overhauling the 230 and offered me his fresh 230 out of his 1954 pickup. The head is stampted 1954 and it does have the little bump at the front of the head. He is offering the motor plus a four speed transmision for $2300.

So, any thoughts to whether the newer 230 design whould be a better motor or should I stick with what I have?
