I would try a tractor dealer or a coop farm equipment store. Some old stock clerk should be able to help you.
It sounds like good advice from WOJ..... it could be the same basic fluid used in the Hydraulics systems of tractors.... the same fluid also lubricates the rear axle gear cluster.
A good NAPA store in a rural area should also be helpfull.
