Poppin' Out of Low!

While driving up STEEP hills in 4WD low range in low gear my transfer case has popped out of low 2 times today. It hasn't popped out of 4WD high. Any ideas? I'm glad my brakes work or I'd be "Over the Mountain and through the woods."
