Front end problems (around 35 mph or so)

I get this side to side jerking of the whole front end on my
1945 wc-51 when going between 35-40 mph (I would estimate)

I checked the tie rod ends, wheel bearings and the up and down
play in the wheels.. The front end is VERY tight with little or
no play...steering system nice and tight too...

I have brand new 9:00 -16 military non-directionals mounted on the factory combat rims... They have never been balanced, as the tire shop mounting the new tires said it would be friutless to do so....

Anybody ever had a set like this balanced? Did it work, given the weight of this wheel/tire combo?

Any other ideas to dampen this side to side shimmy if the balancing isn't the problem? It is very violent causing a side to side shimmy of the whole truck, not just felt in the steering wheel.

could the factory shocks be doing this if they are worn out?

I had it happen on the same type of shock when one was good, and the other was weak, but it only happened at slow speeds (5-10 mph) So I haven't pursued the shocks being the culprit (yet)

Someone suggested the use of an aftermarket steering stabalizer..

Anyone ever do this with good results? Suggested manufacturer that you used and their part number?

Any other idea's welcome..

Thanks Dave
