It depends how much, how often, and how much slope, and how far you live from the plow route. I haven't had my 4x4 crew running for a couple of winters and have gotten by okay. It is next on the list, sad to see lockers sitting idle.
Doug, I haven't been stuck for 23 days.... Big ice storm, steep polished driveway, needed 4x4 or chains for sure. It was my folk's yard.
But if I rarely get stuck and can get out cheaply, 2x4 is okay. It depends on your needs, no substitute for 4x4 if needed often.
