Bryan,
They're too cold in winter, too hot in summer, too noisy the other times, too small in width and too low in height. By the time you subtract the floor thickness and the roof thickness that 8' becomes more like 6'10" to 7' 2" depending upon the bin type..
We use them for secure storage on jobsites, even have an air conditioned office in one end, but they are not flexible enough design wise to really be practical.
Think about this, if you place three together, in order for your outside corners to be at 90 degrees, without offsets, you are placing the dimisions to the inside, so you lose 8', the 40 feet becomes 32' in depth and only 24' in width, the roof has to be attached in a code approved manner, unless you are in an area without codes, in the end you save a few bucks but have an inflexible floor plan and a tremendous amount of work/cost to install doors and windows. You'd be better off to find a metal building supplier in your area and get quotes for that type of shell. You really need 14' eaves at a minimum for a decent roll up door height of 11-12' feet. Anything less in a shop is a waste.
