Some years ago, before I gave up on the whole idea, I bought a 1-ton chain hoist from our local industrial supply place. I knew I could get a cheap Chinese one at Tool Town, but I wanted a good one. I bought a $150 Ingersoll-Rand hoist, took it home, opened up the nicely-printed American box and inside it was a plain brown box, and inside that was a made-in-China chain hoist with a Chinese inspection slip stamped with Chinese characters, even though the hoist said "Ingersoll-Rand" on it. I kept it, but I learned a lesson. As far as I can tell it's exactly the same as the $50 hoists that Harbor Freight sells.
