1956 is when they came out with the NP 420 partially synchronized tranny. My 1952 B-3 has the NP "after" type of non-synchro. I believe the 46-50 trucks had the NP "before" type non-synchro, which is slightly different. My 1951 Dodge parts manual shows the different trannies and the differences. They identify them as before and after.
